The Hunger Games Fever

Why is archery popular today in the US?  There are three reasons why the archery boom came.  First of all, The Hunger Games influenced girls who admire to be like the heroine in the movie, Katniss.  She is good at archery, and she hunts animals in the forest by herself.  She is brave, and therefore children of young ages want to be like Katniss and want to be cool.  Second, the archery boom is good for fathers of young children.  As many fathers are busy, fathers try to spend their holiday wisely to communicate with their children by doing archery with them, which is why the archery boom came.  Third, archery appeals to children who are too shy to play normal team sports, such as soccer, tennis, and baseball.  They do archery because archery is independent and cool.  This is another reason the archery boom came.  These three reasons are influenced by The Hunger Games.

About The Hunger Games

The Movie of The Hunger Games

In my view, the movie of The Hunger Games makes me feel satisfied.  There are three reasons why I thought it.  First of all, the movie lived up to fans’ expectations.  According to THE Hollywood REPORTER, the movie made a huge profit.  It is only the film to reach $200 million in eight days.  Second, the movie showed less violence for children who are under 13 years old.  There are many violent scenes in the book, but in the movie they were omitted.  However, some fans were disappointed with it.  Third, the movie had many action scenes.  They reappeared in the book.  I think it was the best movie among the movies I have watched.

Spring Break

It was a lazy spring break for me.  I watched Japanese films and English films with my friends everyday by using my lap top.  For example, I watched Jiburi and Disney movies.  Jiburi movies reminded me of Japanese life.  Disney movies were easy-to-understand stories and words, so I could practice my listening skill. However, my English became rusty during spring break because I didn’t speak English that much.  I should have spoken English as much as I could with my friends.  I was lazy, but I went outside only two days.  On March 28th, I went to Portland with five of my friends.  It was the second time I went there.  I bought some t-shirts and jerseys.  Next day I went to Wood burn with my friends.  I’ve never bought any stuff at an outlet store in my life.  I was so excited.  I bought a sweat shirt, some t-shirts, and a rain coat.  I was satisfied that day’s shopping.  After that day, I wasted my time to study and get exercise.  I should have been active.  Through this spring break I decided to spend summer vacation more actively.

PowWow

I was really fascinated by PowWow because it was good performance and costume.  It was the first time to see actual American Indian culture.  There are a lot of people in the arena.  I felt that I was in foreign land from atmosphere.  At first, when I entered the Sparks, I smelled incense and get a sight of colorful clothes which dancers wore.  Their costume had many different looks.  Almost men dancers wore ornaments of eagle’s feathers which get attached like the letter “O,” and women’s clothes had long and narrow bells on their belts.  In addition to their costume, they had cotton, fan which made of eagle’s feathers, earrings, necklaces, and beads.   There were the sounds of drum and singing voice being played, and it carried far.  They had a meaning that “We are family. Everyone is one.”  In Japan people don’t have a festival like PowWow, so I was impressed.  I think we never exterminate PowWow, so we should tell next generation about PowWow.
